Morey’s Piers (Wildwood) The overall Morey’s complex currently includes: Morey's Pier, Mariner's Landing, Wild Wheels Pier and the old Dinosaur Beach Pier.
Park News - (6/30/09) A new book called, “A Wild Ride”, has been released that chronicles the history and development of Morey’s Piers as well as going into detail about the attraction present and possible future plans. (6/8/09) A large photo trip report from Morey’s Piers has been posted to GADV.com and is worth checking out. (3/17/09) Morey’s has confirmed that they will offer a Summer Concert Series this summer with 10 free concerts from Radio Disney artists, including Ashlee Keating (Aug 10th) and Brock Storm (Aug 24th). They also mentioned a new lighting package on Maelstrom, new windshields on the Giant Wheel, new upgrades to Dante’s Dungeon, Pirates of Wildwoods and The Mummy attractions. Some rides are also being moved around this season, this includes Musik Express and Rollie’s Coaster swapping places and being moved 50 feet to the north. Super Scooters and Mini Scooters from Surfside Pier are being moved to Mariner’s Landing. Kiddie Boats from Mariner’s Landing will be moving to Surfside Pier, and Baby Venice of Surfside will go to Mariner’s Landing. Crazy Bus will remain on Mariner’s Landing but will get a new look and be moved slightly. Jack In The Box will be moved near the Airplanes and Kite Flyer will be moved closers to Convoy. Phew! (3/13/09) Morey’s Piers is celebrating their 40th Anniversary this season which they will mark with many special events this year, a new website and an anniversary book. Opening weekend at Morey’s will take place on April 4th (noon to 6pm) and they will offer several “Birthday cake celebrations” throughout the season, starting off on Easter with cupcakes for the kids. They’re offering a variety of prize giveaways to those who enter into the contest by texting ‘MOREYS” to 38714, with prizes up to free tickets and even some overnight stays. Look for the new book, A Wild Ride, that will showcase the history of Moreys as well. (2/5/09) Footage from the goodbye ceremony for the Golden Nugget have been posted to CrazyAboutWildwood.com. Meanwhile one of our own readers also attended the event and sent in a batch of photos for everyone to enjoy.
(1/23/09) Morey’s Piers is inviting the public to attend a farewell ceremony to honor the Golden Nugget Mine Ride on Saturday, January 31st at Noon on Hunt’s Pier. In addition to celebrating the ride’s 34 years, visitors will be given a limited edition commemorative souvenir. (12/11/08) According to an official announcement from Morey’s Piers, they will be holding a final farewell ceremony on Saturday, January 31st for the Golden Nugget. Sadly, the Golden Nugget’s time has come and the ride will be removed from Hunt’s Pier. While ideas were thrown around for ways to save and restore the ride at action for years, in the end these plans were just “not viable” given state regulation and current safety standards. As for what the future may hold for the site, they would only say, “know that the removal of this classic coaster will make way for something greater, worthy of the Golden Nugget’s memory.”
2009 - Changes and Improvements - (3/17/09) Morey’s has confirmed that they will offer a Summer Concert Series this summer with 10 free concerts from Radio Disney artists, including Ashlee Keating (Aug 10th) and Brock Storm (Aug 24th). 2011-2013 - New Wooden Coaster - Planning - (3/13/09) Included in the 40th Anniversary Press Release was an update about the proposed new coaster project. “Plans are on the drawing boards for one of the most unique coasters ever built, taking riders over the beach between two piers. The ride, based in part on feedback from coaster enthusiasts, is being seriously considered for construction during the 2011-2013 timeframe.” (3/1/09) We’ve heard that the proposed Wooden Coaster that would span two boardwalks still hasn’t set on a final design yet and that they’re in no hurry to do so right now. Currently, the way things stand, the project may not see the light of day until the 2011 or 2012 seasons. (2/5/08) Thanks to the guys at
NorthEastCoasters, they sent us a copy of the photo they posted of the current rough GCI plans for the 2010 wooden coaster project at Morey’s Piers. As you can see the left side of the plans shows off where the station, lift hill, first drop and final brake run will be placed, but the rest of the ride (other than the long dark tunnel) will take place at the right side location where I’ve zoomed in a bit to show off the two different views of the action portion of the ride’s layout. (2/4/08) You’ll have to scroll down a bit in this report from Eastcoaster 2008 posted to North East Coasters, but you can see a basic layout of the current proposal from GCI for the new 2010 wooden coaster planning for Morey’s that would span two piers. (8/2/07) A reader at the event did recall that Jack Morey mentioned something about dealing with two jurisdictions to build the coaster which actually would likely place it between Surfside Pier and the former Hunts / Dinosaur Beach pier, which are actually the only two piers close enough together to be a viable choice. Depending on where the station is located, perhaps this is a sign that Morey’s may be considering reopening the old Hunts / Dinosaur Beach pier along with previous plans to reopen the Golden Nugget. (7/27/07) I’ve been told that a good number of people were able to see the various design ideas Morey’s is looking at for their next wooden coaster. According to sources Morey’s has been talking with GCI, Gravity Group and even Premier Rides for layout proposals. Morey’s indicated that they were likely to paint it white like the wooden coasters of the past.
