News & Rumors

MIRABILANDIA
Italy
Parques Reunidos

Park News - (3/25/08) Mirabilandia has begun the process of taking down Sierra Tonante, their old wooden coaster. You can see pictures of the demoltion in progress at Theparks.it.
(2/19/08) According to an interview with Parksmania, Mirabilandia reported that while they looked into saving Sierra Tonante the wooden coaster was in such a state that it needed “extraordinary repairs with costs so high that we could nearly build a new big attraction.” Even if they opted to pay up and save the woodie, the length of time needed to repair it would have prevented it from opening this season anyway.
(1/18/08) Parksmania confirms the official news that that Mirabilandia will be replacing Sierra Tonante with a new mega-coaster and has a few nice pictures of Sierra Tonante.
(1/15/08) Screamscape sources tell us that Mirabilandia will soon remove their wooden coaster, Sierra Tonante, to make way for a new B&M Hypercoaster project. The park is expected to confirm this in the very near future.

2008 - Reset: Year Zero and Monsters of the Deep - (2/21/08) Mirabilandia will open a new scary dark ride attraction this June called Reset: Year Zero. The story describes a world left in ruins after a meteor storm decimated billions of human lives. The atmosphere has become toxic and many areas have also become radioactive. The few human survivors left have decided that the destruction of the world was so utterly complete that they “reset” the calendar and the year 2111 has now become Year Zero. From the artwork it seems that the ride will be set in New York City and the whole attraction has the look and feel of the “I Am Legend” film. From the look of the artwork featuring a pair of survivors with guns, I’m guessing that this will be an interactive shoot-em-up ride. You can see a teaser video at the official website that is also promoting a new 4D Theater film called Monstri dagli Abissi (Monsters of the Deep) 4D.

2009 - B&M Coaster - Rumor - (4/24/08) After giving it some thought, I have to admit that Mirabilandia’s 2009 B&M coaster could indeed be a Dive Machine and not the rumored Hypercoaster everyone has been assuming they will get. As it was pointed out to me, a typical out and back layout really doesn’t need the kind of room that the park will be adding with the removal of Sierra Tonante. A Dive Machine on the other hand could take advantage of this newly opened space quite nicely however. While I know it was confirmed that the 2009 project would be a B&M… was it ever confirmed what style of coaster it would be? That red B&M Dive Machine track at the factory has to have a home somewhere.
(1/15/08) A B&M coaster is said to be replacing the the park’s Sierra Tonante wooden coaster. The exact timeline is not yet known.
