News & Rumors

Michgan’s Adventure
Muskegon, MI
Cedar Fair Entertainment

Park News - (8/29/07) The new 2008 season passes are now on sale at the Michigan’s Adventure website. The big change this year is that instead of the MAXX Pass and the MAXX Plus Pass (included waterparks), there is now only one option, the new Cedar Fair Platinum Pass for $140 that is good at all Cedar Fair parks (including waterparks) and will include free parking at all locations as well. The new price point is in between the cost of the old MAXX Pass and the MAXX Plus Pass so to some it will be a discount and to others an increase, depending on what pass option you bought last year. The standard one park season pass does not include parking, but they are also selling a separate 2008 Season Parking Sticker good at all of the Cedar Fair parks for $35.

icon_STOP2008 - Thunderhawk - (4/28/08) MiaBlogOnline has posted a new update showing off the latest look at Thunderhawk, including a look at the new ride entrance area and Thunderhawk Store.
(4/21/08) A new construction update from Thunderhawk has been posted to the official Michigan’s Adventure website that shows off the Lodge style look to the station as well as the trains on the track.
(3/13/08) New construction pictures of Thunderhawk layout are now posted at the official website. The park will also be holding a charity auction to give away the seats on the first rides.
(3/7/08) New Thunderhawk pictures can be found at the MiaBlogOnline.
(3/3/08) A new Thunderhawk construction update can be found at MiaBlogOnline.
(2/27/08) The official Thunderhawk construction page has been updated with new pictures.
(2/14/08) New construction pictures of Thunderhawk have been added to the official site.
(2/12/08) New construction updates for Thunderhawk can be seen at MiaBlogOnline.
(1/30/08) The official park website has posted new construction pictures of Thunderhawk where it looks like they’ve installed the brake runs and transfer track and the station’s structure. You can now see that those mystery “blue” sections were unpainted parts of the station itself that were covered up in the station.

(1/25/08) Thunderhawk at Michigan’s Adventure has gone vertical at last as you can see in the pictures posted to MiaBlogOnline. Looks like they’re keeping the yellow supports and going with the new red track color.
(1/17/08) The whole painting of Thunderhawk sure has gotten a lot of responses from you readers. One local source claims that the pieces are all being repainted while there is some conflicting opinions on if Cedar Fair ever repainted the entire ride or not. As you can see in the following two photo links Cedar Fair did paint the transfer track and station track. I believe the truth may be somewhere in the middle here… as we did get one report that Cedar Fair apparently took about a year to paint the entire ride when they bought the park, so there may have been a time when some sections were once left the old colors. I’ve also been told that some sections of the supports for the station may have also been covered with fake rockwork or wood, which would have hidden their blue paint from the Cedar Fair paint crews, which could explain a few light blue pieces. But it seems fairly certain now that those new red track pieces have just been repainted.
(1/16/08) Michigan’s Adventure has posted a new construction update for Thunderhawk. Take a good look at the bottom two pictures and you may see a few interesting new colors as there are a few pieces of red track and a few blue supports in the mix. Yes… these are the same old colors that the ride was back under Six Flags when it was known as Serial Thriller before Cedar Fair renamed and repainted it. Now before we assume Cedar Fair is repainting the ride back to the old colors, I’ve got my own theory. I’m thinking that perhaps these few red/blue pieces are perhaps just leftovers from the old Six Flags days, pieces that Cedar Fair never painted in their rush to give the ride a new identify. Those red track pieces look a little odd… like station or perhaps transfer track pieces and the blue supports are all of the square variety, likely part of the station, and not the typical round track supporting pieces. Can anyone else confirm this from the old Geauga Lake days?
(12/21/07) Michigan’s Adventure has posted new construction photos of Thunderhawk taken yesterday on the park’s website. Still a lot of work left to do however.
(11/30/07) It looks like our other reader must have been mistaken when they thought they saw new trains for Thunderhawk on the way to the park. A reader checked in with Michigan’s Adventure to ask if they were getting new trains, but was told that they would be using the same trains that were used at Geauga Lake, which are supposed to be on trucks on their way at this moment that will be extensively refurbished once they arrive.
(11/27/07) Michigan’s Adventure guests may be in for a treat next summer when they ride Thunderhawk. At this time I’ve heard that most of the pieces of Thunderhawk have been delivered from Ohio, however one of the items yet to be moved are the coaster trains which are just sitting out in the open air, exposed to the elements at Geauga Lake as you can see in the bottom photo posted to Geauga Lake Today. However a local Michigan resident claims to have spotted what looked like the trains for Thunderhawk on a truck heading towards the park, repainted silver and dark blue. Since the old red and blue trains are still in Ohio, it is believed that Thunderhawk could be getting a new set of trains from Vekoma, possibly using the all new restraint system that was being tested out at Morey’s Piers back in October. Anyone know more?
(11/2/07) A new construction update on the progress of Thunderhawk can be seen at the official park website. From the looks of things it will be going in right next to the lake between the Rapids and the far turn of Wolverine Wildcat. We’ve heard that work may also have begun on building that long awaited new pathway from the Wildcat, past Thunderhawk to the connect to the back of the park.
(10/15/07) Photos of the Thunderhawk track on site at Michigan’s Adventure have been posted to MiaBlogOnline.
(10/11/07) According to the MiaBlogOnline, they’ve spotted a truck hauling coaster track in the area this week, so keep your eyes open for coaster track piling up at the park.
(10/2/07) Michigan’s Adventure confirmed the rumors today that the park will add Thunderhawk, a Vekoma SLC inverted coaster to the park for the 2008 season. This ride will be coming from the former Geauga Lake park where it is currently being removed. The announcement claims Thunderhawk will be placed near RipCord and Adventure Falls, but gives no mention of Grand Rapids, so I’m not entirely sure where they plan to squeeze it in. The park claims that the addition of Thunderhawk will actually be the largest single ride expenditure in the history of Michigan’s Adventure.
(9/12/07) A Screamscape reader claims to have seen what may have been survey markings right behind Wolverine Wildcat. Anyone else seen these?
(8/27/07) We’ve now heard confirmations from other sources backing up the story that Thunderhawk (Vekoma SLC) from Geauga Lake will be coming to Michigan’s Adventure. No word yet on if this year will just add the new coaster or if they’ll add that new back pathway as well.
(8/24/07) If you haven’t read up on the latest doom and gloom rumors for Geauga Lake take a look, because the next ride coming to Michigan’s Adventure may be an Ohio resident.

2009 - Timbertown Improvements - Rumor - (12/28/07) According to our latest rumor we may see them try to fill in the remaining space between the new Thunderhawk coaster and the original Timbertown Railroad station with a new restaurant and possible gift shop in 2009.
