Main Street America Grayling, Michigan
Proposed Theme Park - (2/6/09) It’s official, the Main Street America project is dead now after failing to meet their deadline yesterday. The proposed deal to sell 1,400 acres to Axiom for the ark is now off the table and has been terminated by the state. (1/31/09) According to this article the February 5th deadline for Main Street America is approaching very quickly and so far has shown no sign of success. It’s assumed that they don’t have the financing in order since Axiom Entertainment asked for another 6 month extension of to the deadline which was denied. So unless Axiom gets a last second visit from someone willing to finance the project, it looks like this will be the end of the road. (12/22/08) The local news has posted a quick update about the status of Axiom Entertainment, who only has until February 5th to come up with the funds to make the theme park resort deal happen, but with the current economic conditions, it doesn’t look like their quest is going to get any easier. (9/5/08) Axiom has announced that they would like to make a change with their previous plans for the Main Street America theme park. Instead of buying 1,700 acres from the state for $5.2 million, they now only want to purchase 1,433 acres instead for $4.4 million. This does nothing to change the Feb 2009 deadline for Axiom to prove their financial plans however. (8/17/08) Axiom has been given a deadline of February to get their financing in order for the Main Street America project and provide proof to the state before they will sell them the land needed for the project. (7/10/08) The FBI are investigating a possible financier for the Main Street America project for alleged business misconduct, which could put the project in a bad light. (7/9/08) A new hearing about Main Street America will take place tomorrow as state officials try to make sure that everything with the project is on the up and up before agreeing to sell Axiom the 1,700 area property. Meanwhile there is an all new website now up to promote the Main Street America park as well, so check it out. There are some interesting and unique looking animated graphics showing off what the different areas of the park might look like (6/25/08) Axiom Entertainment, the developers of Main Street America project say they are “cautiously optimistic” and moving forward through all the required steps to buy the $5.9 piece of property needed and will present more information at a July 10th meeting of the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. (6/17/08) According to this news article, state officials are expected to agree to the deal to sell 1,700 acres of land to Axiom, the group behind the Main Street America park project, for $5.2 million. The state is requiring that Axiom provide proof that they have the financial backing for the entire park project and not just the land before they approve the sale however, a stipulation that hasn’t been proven just yet. (5/16/08) Axiom Entertainment is officially delaying their financial commitments to the proposed Main Street America park project until fire damage can be assessed after a 1,300 acre fire that took place in April damaged nearly 400 acres of the property they wanted to use. (4/11/08) The local news reports that Axiom Entertainment is getting closer to finalizing their financial requirements for the Main Streeet America theme park they hope to build in Grayling. The plan is to meet with state officials, with written agreements in tow, within a couple of weeks. (12/6/07) State officials have put up a roadblock to the proposed Main Street America theme park proposal as they want proof that the developers have the finances to fully build the project before they will sell them the property. Axiom reports that they are working on putting together the financial plan to satisfy the requirements. (11/9/07) A small update on Main Street America can be found here. (10/25/07) The project manager of the Main Street America park project has told officials that they will not require a bond from the county to help finance the park. The project will be funded with $60 million in equity partners and another $100 million in financing from banks and investors. They are asking the state to provide $11 million in improvements to the area and to look into incentives. The next step is to obtain the land from the state and then we’re looking at a 24-30 month construction timetable to open the park. (9/4/07) A general news update about the Main Street America project planned for Michigan can be found here. (8/2/07) After a public meeting between Axiom Entertainment and Grayling Township (Michigan) about their proposed theme park plans, the Township approved the preliminary plan so that the project can move forward to the next step on their long road to building their huge resort project. (5/30/07) Last December we reported the news about an 1,800 acre land deal for a new theme park in Michigan, the developers have come forward to talk about the park itself. They're calling it Main Street America and for a limited time you can catch a local news report about the project here (click on Watch Video). From what I could catch in the report, the $160 million theme park project was unanimously approved by the township and would be open Year Round in one form or another. The theme of one area was Winter Wonderland that would be lighted at night. The park will have roller coasters of course as well as a water park where they proposed to call one slide “Au Sable River Run”. The park will also have a “race track” which will be turned into a Snow Mobile track in the winter months. Unfortunately, that’s about all the information I was able to dig up right now. More as we uncover it. (12/20/06) A 1,800 acre piece of land off I-75 south of Grayling has been entered into an exclusive land deal worth $160 million with Axiom Entertainment. The company has the sole right to buy the property for the next two years but at this point they have not submitted any proposals about exactly what they will do with it. Read more here.
