Kemah Boardwalk near Houston, Texas Landry’s Restaurants
News - (2/20/08) A collection of pictures from the Kemah Boardwalk have been posted to Negative-G. Look for the “next” at the bottom of each page, it can be hard to find. They’ve got a great picture of what’s got to be the ultimate home for a wood coaster enthusiast on the second page. (1/15/08) I’m told that the Boardwalk Bullet opened once again not too long ago and the early report is that the rougher sections seem to be smoothed out, while the big pop of airtime in the middle of the ride seems to have been untouched. Keep in mind that it is winter and ride still really has to break in those new track sections, so your experience may vary over time and under different weather conditions. (12/19/07) In the latest updates about the rehabbing of the Boardwalk Bullet, I want to mention once again that this winter rehab was scheduled to take place long before the Bullet even opened, so the majority of work being done here was planned long ago and not the result of any potential lawsuits. As of this time I’ve been told that none of the ride’s structure has been removed, other than some work being done to two “ledgers”. The work being done is mainly to the track itself as they are removing the top track layers to re-track the ride’s more rougher sections. The majority of work is being done from the middle of the first drop around to the upper bay side turn where the ride is getting 100% re-tracked. There is also a small section being re-tracked at the start of the second drop as well as a spot of violent ejector-airtime about mid-way through the ride which is being redesigned, as it was planned in the first place, to be a smooth floater spot instead. There is also some work being done to re-track and adjust the magnetic braking system. (12/17/07) I haven’t found any photos yet, but I’ve been told that construction crews are crawling all over the Boardwalk Bullet these days, taking sections of the ride down to rebuild it. Now I had heard over the summer that there were solid plans in place to do just this over the winter due to the rushed construction timetable. However, other sources tell me that the rougher portions of the ride have apparently caused a few individuals to file “whiplash” lawsuits so sections of the ride will be tamed down a bit when it reopens. (12/10/07) While these aren’t new photos, I don’t think I ever linked to them in the past and they really show off the unique look of the Boardwalk Bullet. (10/22/07) The Kemah Boardwalk has opened a new simulator attraction that is currently running Spongebob Squarepants 4-D. You can also experience the Dungeon of Doom haunted house through Halloween.
