icon_STOPGeneral Area Attraction News - (5/19/2024) You may recall how the 2020 World Expo in Dubai was severely impacted by the COVID pandemic. In fact… it did not take place in 2020 at all, but rather was delayed to take place from October 2021 to March 2022 as a result. Despite the best attempts, I know a number of people who would have liked to have seen it simply were not willing or able to do so during that chaotic time period.
However, it is worth noting that some of 2020 World Expo will live on in the form of a new legacy museum at the site in Expo City Dubai that just opened this weekend, where you can also still see many of the structural features built for the Expo, such as the Garden in the Sky observation tower and the “Surreal” water wall. The new Expo 2020 Dubai Museum, through the use of displays, interactive content and mixed-media exhibits, will take guests on a journey back to see what the 2020 World Expo was like, with guided tours every half hour.

(9/4/22) Dubai’s Global Village has announced the arrival of a new attraction being simply called “Big Balloon”. As you might expect, it is a ride up into the sky on a 20-passenger tethered giant balloon offering beautiful 360º views of the surrounding area. Look for Big Balloon to open on October 25, 2022. I imagine this will be similar, if not exactly the same experience, as the Aerophile balloon ride at Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs.

???? - Marsa Al Arab - Announced - (6/30/19) Seems the previous plans have been changed and instead of the big island with a marine park, new Wild Wadi waterpark and more, they are now planning on a smaller island that may just contain a large new hotel structure and replacement marina. I don’t know for sure, but it sounds like the existing Wild Wadi waterpark may be staying where it is for now, but it is hard to say as delays to the project will also ensure it misses the previous 2020 opening date, and are now probably looking more at 2022 or 2023 for anything, land clearing in the marina has just begun earlier this year.
